Community Mosque, Inc. (CMI) was founded in 1991 as a grassroots initiative devoted to the principles and practice of Islam and  its application within the contemporary urban environment.

Of primary concern were the pressing issues facing indigenous Muslims of color, notably African-Americans, Latinos and those residing in low-income and working-class communities.

Then and now, members of the Islamic community (Ummah) continue to be confronted with a host  of challenges, both domestic and international.

In addition to  post-911 'Islamophobia' , indigenous Muslims of color continue to struggle against the historical and structural legacy of racism, white-supremacy and self/group hatred.

Founded by Khalid Raheem (, CMI remains firmly committed to the teachings of Qur'an, Hadith and the Sunnah of prophet Muhammad (saw). We are also  grounded in the historical legacy and contemporary examples of righteous teachers of truth and martyrs for justice.

Rather than sectarian ideological 'hair splitting', our focus will continue to be on worshiping Allah(swt) through promoting personal growth, neighborhood development and social liberation.

Personal responsibility, advocacy, institutional and structural change: these are the duties that define our mission and movement.

May Allah (swt) have mercy on us and give us His guidance.
